CIUC (Clean it Up Canada)
Family Viewing System

Picture
The broadcast of overly suggestive music videos and dance reality shows in Canada and some performances over the past few years on our stages, has encouraged many Canadian Competition Directors to form a coalition to encourage choreographers of all young dancers to avoid mature themes, costumes and suggestive choreography. We at RHYTHM DANCE, realize that dance and art include a broad range of styles, taste and appropriateness. However, RHYTHM is a family event and we are determined to set some sort of standard to make sure inappropriate costuming and routines are penalized. At a minimum, these routines should not be rewarded with the highest scores of the competition. To handle this, RHYTHM has set up a new “Family Viewing” point system. Each judge’s score sheet will have a check box on it labeled “I might not be RHYTHM friendly”. For each judge that checks this box, there will be a 1 point deduction from a routine’s total score.
This is not a perfect science. RHYTHM’s opinion might be too relaxed for some and too strict for others. We can only do what we think is right. This is a work in progress but we feel that it’s a step in the right direction. Please share in our concerns and help protect your students’ innocence.
We hire qualified, professional judges and their decision is final.
